Black Cole Sun was the last event of 2014 for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and they ended the year in style with eight matches of varying degrees of Awesomeness!
First up was the great six person tag team match featuring ACH, AR Fox and Rich Swann versus Bobby Fish, Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor. The match was, as you’d expect with all the talent involved, a mix of amazing high spots and broad comedy which worked well together producing a very satisfying opener.
Next up was Cedric Alexander versus Adam Cole in a very competitive singles match. At the start of the match Cole continued to play the cocky heel persona PWG fans know and love. However he showed a touch of class after the match with a heartfelt speech for the Reseda crowd.
Following on from that was Chris Hero versus Trevor Lee. Lee in my opinion was 2014’s most valuable player with great performance after great performance with the likes of Kevin Steen, Michael Elgin and Adam Cole. This match did not disappoint with Hero’s strong style meshing well with the Carolina Caveman’s brawling / high flying style.
The Worlds Cutest Tag team (Joey Ryan and Candice LeRae) versus The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) was another great tag team match with the title on the line. It showed why LeRae is not just a great female wrestler but quite simply a great wrestler full stop.
The Four way match featuring Brian Cage, Biff Busick, Tommaso Ciampa and Uhaa Nation should have been billed “Battle of the big guys.” This match was amazing with both Cage and Nation stealing the show with their athletic abilities. Two big men who can definitely go!
Chris Sabin and Matt Sydal take on The Young Bucks in a tag team match. 2014 saw The Young Bucks taking the world by storm, winning matches and titles all over. This night they took on the pair of Sabin and Sydal in a hard hitting, super kicking fight that could spell the formation of a new tag team force to be reckoned with!
Champion Kyle O’Reilly takes on Ricochet for the title in a match full of differet styles. 2014 could also be the year of Ricochet with the young star fighting around the world and winning the Battle of Los Angeles to gain a title shot. This match showed why Ricochet is not just a high flyer but a competent all rounder. O’Reilly showed why he is one of the best wrestlers around at the moment.
The surprise of the night was when Roderick Strong stormed the ring and fought the already tired O’Reilly in a Guerrilla Warfare match for the World Championship Title. This was another brutal match in the hardcore style, with sick chair spots and a table bump that you just have to see!
Overall PWG’s Black Cole Sun was an Awesome way to end the year. If you’ve seen a PWG show before you know what I mean and what to expect. If you are new to PWG then you can’t go wrong with this DVD.
PWG and the faithful crowd at Reseda, California, have found something special and something all the stars work for, quite simply the best wrestling on the planet!
