NJPW G1 Climax 29 – Night 6 (7/19) Review

From Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan

1)   Bullet Club (“The Rogue General” Bad Luck Fale & “The Crown Jewel” Chase Owens) vs Suzuki-Gun (Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)

Winners: Bullet Club after Kanemaru accidentally caught ZSJ with The Santori Surprise, Fale ran over Kanemaru with a Shoulder Tackle and used a Big Splash to cover, but Yoshinobu kicked out! Fale pulled him up and used Grenade to put Kanemaru down for the 3.

ZSJ attempted to attack Fale, but fell victim to Grenade.

2)   “The Ace of the Universe” Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomoaki Honma vs Suzuki-Gun (Lance Archer & “The King” Minoru Suzuki)

Winners: Suzuki-Gun after Minoru wrapped Honma up in a Rear Naked Choke, as Archer held Tanahashi by the throat, Minoru pushed Honma to Lance, who Chokeslammed both of his opponents! Archer wrapped The EBD Claw around Honma’s head and forced him to the mat, picking up the pinfall.

3)   Six Man Tag match: KENTA, “The Golden Star” Kota Ibushi & Clark Connors vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (“The King of Darkness” EVIL, “Cold Skull” SANADA & BUSHI)

Winners: LIJ after LIJ used The LIJ Train on Connors, BUSHI followed with The Back Cracker and the cover, but Ibushi & KENTA broke it up. SANADA & EVIL threw Ibushi & KENTA out of the ring, as BUSHI positioned on the middle turnbuckle, and, as Clark staggered to his feet, BUSHI scored with MX and covered for the 3.

4)   IWGP Heavyweight Champion “The Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI vs IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay & Toa Henare

Winners: Okada & HASHI after Henare blocked HASHI’s Lariat with a Lariat of his own and scored with Slaps, before throwing a Headbutt, which HASH countered with a Slap. HASHI went for the ropes, only Henare caught him with a Thrust Kick and hit the ropes, HASHI ducked and continued running, before scoring with The Axe Bomber and covering for a 2. As Okada held Ospreay on the floor, HASHI dumped Henare with a Fisherman’s Buster and covered for the 3.

5)   G1 Climax – B Block: “The Dragon” Shingo Takagi (2) vs TAICHI (2) w/Miho Abe

Winner: Shingo (2) after Shingo destroyed TAICHI with The Pumping Bomber and covered for a 2, Shingo fired up, pulling TAICHI in for The Last of The Dragon and putting him down to get the big victory.

6)  G1 Climax – B Block: Juice Robinson (4) vs Jeff Cobb (0)

Winner: Cobb (2) after Juice escaped The Tour of the Islands and used an School Boy to get a 2, Cobb threw a Superkick, which Juice countered and went for The Left Hand to God, only for Cobb to counter with a SNAP German Suplex, before sending Juice into the ropes and using The Tour of the Islands to pick up the win.

7)   G1 Climax – B Block: Toru Yano (2) vs “Switchblade” Jay White (0) w/Gedo

Winner: Yano (2) after Yano took the Brass Knuckles from Gedo, he distracted Referee Red Shoes to admonish Gedo, just as White went for Slingblade, but Yano escaped and pushed White into Gedo, before nailing a Low Blow and using a School Boy to pick up a great win. (Quick and fun.)

8)  G1 Climax – B Block: Hirooki Goto (2) vs IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito (0)

Winner: after Goto scored with The Reverse GTR and connected with The Mid Kick, he attempted The Ooishigaroshi, only for Naito to counter and SPIKE Goto with a Tornado DDT. Naito recovered a little and sprinted, as Goto got to his feet, planting Hirooki with Destino and covering for a close 2. With the crowd losing their minds, Naito pulled Goto up and hit another Destino, this time keeping Goto down for the 3. (Awesome match. Great story of Naito going to Goto’s leg early and using the advantage at any possible turn. This match fucking ruled. RECOMMENDED!)

9)  G1 Climax – B Block: IWGP United States Champion “Death Rider” Jon Moxley (4) vs NEVER Openweight Champion “The Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii (4)

Winner: Moxley (2) after Ishii laid out Moxley with a Short Arm Lariat, he fired up and hit the ropes, leveling Moxley with a Lariat and covering, but Jon kicked out at 2. Ishii pulled Moxley up for The Vertical Drop Brainbuster, but he escaped and hooked for The Death Rider, which Ishii struggled out of, only for Moxley to blast Ishii with a Headbutt, but Ishii answered with a big elbow and then a Thrusting Headbutt, dropping Moxley. Ishii hit the ropes and nailed Moxley with a Northern Lariat, followed by a Lariat, which Moxley shrugged off and answered with slaps! Ishii nailed Moxley with a Palm Strike and went for a Lariat, but Moxley countered into a Snap Death Rider and covered for a 2. Moxley pulled down his kneepads and SMOKED Ishii with The Regal Knee, before pulling him back up and using The Death Rider to end this war! (Fucking awesome! High energy violence. WATCH THIS MATCH!)

The energy of this Korakuen Hall crowd is unmatched and these last two shows have really been something. Two bangers to end this show tonight, please go out of your way to watch Jon Moxley’s efforts in this tournament. Also, Ishii is a LEGEND
