Lauren LaRoux is the first lady of PWU. Making a name for herself in her native Northern Ireland, she’s a name to watch.
For the people who don’t know who you are, could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, I’m Lauren LaRoux, PWU’s first lady!
Could you tell us how you got your start in the world of wrestling; where you trained and who trained you?
Well, it all started when I attended a PWU show in November of 2013. They announced that they were taking on trainees. My boyfriend and I looked at each other and that was it! I sent the email through and I started training in February of 2014 for Pro Wrestling Ulster. I Have awesome people training me; Head trainers JDP and DJ, who have years of experience. Also, there’s Tucker; who is one of the best and Tron, a former WWE developmental trainee.
There are a lot of guys in PWU that have a lot of experience and help with training, so I definitely can say I’m learning from some of the best.
You’re mainly known for working for PWU (Pro Wrestling Ulster) in Northern Ireland, what’s it like working for them?
Pro Wrestling Ulster is fantastic! I’m the only female there and all the guys are extremely supportive. They’re so helpful and very encouraging! They are a great bunch and I have a lot of respect for them.
What’s the scene like in NI?
The wrestling scene in NI is definitely growing! PWU is by far the best promotion that NI has. They’re constantly going from strength to strength and without a doubt, it’s the fans that are helping that. Selling out shows in the world famous Europa Hotel; that’s great! Being the only promotion up north that offers a training school, it definitely is on a greater level than any other promotion. With constant talent coming through the doors and great training facilities, it’s only going to get better!
Your gimmick is PWUs First Lady, whose idea was it and do you enjoy portraying the character?
It’s not a gimmick, it’s the truth. I’m PWU’s first and only lady. And I enjoy it. I have to keep up with the guys, so I am constantly pushing myself!
Also, your finisher is named the ‘In For The Kill’, aside from the obvious connection to your name, does it reflect what happens in the ring?
My aim is to win, I’m a redhead; piss me off and I won’t be afraid to do whatever it takes to put you down.
You’ve faced some quality talents in PWU, including Viper, Pollyanna (Peppers) and Katey Harvey among others, has there been a match in particular that means more to you?
Well, my first ever match down with FFPW in Dublin was a memorable one! I remember being so excited but nervous and extremely proud of myself for getting through it without any problems.
But my favourite match to date has to be the fatal four-way at PWU SuperShow 4. Working with Katey, Polly and Viper was amazing. Hearing the crowd’s reaction was incredible and for people to say we had match of the night, is the best compliment you could get!
You can find that match here: https://youtu.be/O_Aq7WyvszI.
The women’s wrestling scene is sometimes seen as a sideshow to some, how does that make you feel when you train as much and work as hard as your male counterparts?
I try not to let things like that annoy me! I train with guys and I’d be insulted if they held back! Us girls work just as hard and if not harder, than some of the guys. We hit it just as hard as they do. We can easily prove people with those opinions wrong! They just have to watch us!
With the wrestling scene in the UK on a high, do you feel this is the best time to be a part of the business?
There’s no better time, especially so for women. People are now more open to women wrestling and with more and more amazing females proving themselves; it’s just going to keep growing!
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
First and foremost, I’m going for the PWU Women’s Title!
I would love to wrestle mainland UK someday. So this year, train hard and learn more.
Is there anything else you’d like to say, add or plug?
Thanks for supporting women’s wrestling!
