Only a real quick entry this time around, for two reasons; firstly as the title suggests its an intro to something a little new which I’ll come to in just a moment, and secondly I’ve just come back from a little family holiday then going straight into a huge weekend of wrestling so time is very limited.
I will TRY not to go into too much detail about what’s coming up this weekend but there is A LOT happening … Tonight up in Preston, PCW have their Spring Slam show with a stacked card and some massive names. I’m not going to this one so was relieved when I remembered today that the announcement of Dave Mastiff vs Terry Funk in a TLC match was just an April Fool since that would have been one hell of a spectacle!! Actual matches they have lined up are looking fantastic, i was going to echo what i said before their last show and say Travis vs Devitt should steal the show but the championship match between Danny Hope and Joey Hayes could be the start of something amazing!
On to shows I AM going to, tomorrow is Southside’s double header of Risky Business and Speed King in Nottingham. When I booked I thought the afternoon show would just be a nice little warm up show but the card announced is as good as any other card around so should be great in its own right with the imports pulling double duty and doing both shows as well. This means I get to see a lot of Petey Williams, AR Fox and Devitt as well as Haskins, Robbie X, Kay Lee Ray, Kirby and Travis. Also in the afternoon show there is a mixed tag match with Ligero and Kay Lee Ray – two established names two established names, teaming up to take on two real up and coming, often under-rated stars in Joseph Connors and Lana Austin.
The evening sees the Speed King tournament which has some scintillating first round match ups announced, leading to an elimination match to crown a new champion, add a Southside championship defence for Mark Haskins against Devitt and it is safe to say this card is stacked!!
Hopefully I will have recovered from all that by Sunday afternoon as Kamikaze Pro are back with Sky’s The Limit at a brand new venue of Hadley Stadium. Again this is an insanely stacked card with Williams and Fox appearing and facing two of the best in the UK in Damian Dunne and Robbie X, with the addition of Steve Corino facing off against Pete Dunne! If that’s not enough Ryan Smile defends his title against Eddie Dennis – two of my favourite guys and guys I love to hate – plus The Hunter Bros vs The Bhangra Knights and an elimination match for a shot at the Relentless title!
So, in a nutshell, this weekend is going to be insane with other shows such as Ironfist going off too!
Moving forward though, next week all being well I will attend my first wrestling class at the Kamikaze Pro Dojo. I am under no illusion that I’m going to become a pro or anything like that, i am going first and foremost to get in shape (other than round) and to learn more about wrestling. I’m not saying I wouldn’t LOVE to be a wrestler, in fact I’ve dreamt up many a scenario where it could happen – most recently challenging Eddie Dennis for “killing” my sheep, then going away to train at the Dojo to get ready with loads of old school WWF style videos along the way. But, alas i am realistic and know this wont happen, but i would love to be in a position to be able to bump and maybe become a manager or commentator and put it into practice once in a while.
But the reason for the “New beginning” bit for my column is that I plan to use thus experience as a feature in my column to document what I’ve learned, and most likely how much it all hurts in reality!!
All this us dependent on me not dying, so if you don’t hear from me again… Assume the worst!!
