If you have been paying attention to ROH for the past 6 months you would know that Kevin Steen’s contract is up in the last week of July. ROH put up a video on their YouTube channel on Thursday of Steen making an important announcement. The announcement was that the next 3 ROH live events will be Steen’s final shows in ROH and this is billed as Mr. Wrestling’s Farewell Tour. Also in the video Steen said that ROH officials allowed him to pick his opponents. For the July 12th show Steen picked to face Tommaso Ciampa for the first time ever match, on the July 18th show Steen picked to face Silas Young in a No DQ match, and for his final ROH show on July 19th Steen picked to face the King of Old School Steve Corino.
These ROH dates aren’t Steen’s final dates on the independent circuit as he is scheduled to face Trevor Lee at PWG’s anniversary show ELEVEN. Also Steen said on his twitter that he will be back in Europe in August. When Steen is done he will be most likely going to WWE as he had a tryout in March and was reportedly offered a developmental deal in late May or early June.
Since Steen is going to WWE I’m happy that I got to see him wrestle twice, the first time at ROH’s 12th Anniversary show in February and the second time at House of Hardcore V in June. I also met Steen at the first ever #HonorCon the day after ROH’s Anniversary show. Steen is my current favorite wrestler because he can do it all. Steen can wrestle, can talk on the microphone, can entertain a crowd, and is so relatable to the fans.
Steen’s farewell will be bitter sweet like all of them are but now the top guy of ROH is going to have be filed by one or more of the talented wrestlers on ROH’s roster. Steen will be leaving ROH accomplishing pretty much everything you can do as he was one of the most controversial, which made him even more entertaining, wrestlers in the ROH. Steen will be greatly missed on the independent circuit but all of his fans will be wishing him the best of luck on what his future holds for him and his future should be a bright one.
