ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds Preview

Added by Justin DiVirgilio

The anticipation is getting higher for Ring of Honor and New Japan fans as War of the Worlds gets closer by the hour. Unlike Global Wars, this show is ROH vs NJPW which is the reason for the increased hype. The card is also pretty stacked for this show in Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC.

Matt Taven, Tomasso Ciampa & ACH vs. Forever Hooligans & Takkaki Wanatabe

The match is the only six man tag match on the show. This match should be a good match but this was just a way to get guys like Ciampa, ACH, and the Hooligans on the show as they all have no feuds going into the show.

The Decade’s BJ Whitmer & Roderick Strong vs. Gedo & Jedo

I’m looking forward to this match as I’ve never seen Gedo and Jedo and I’ve heard that they are a pretty good team. Another thing that is interesting to me about this match is that Jimmy Jacobs is not in the match but expect to be ringside and interfering.

Caprice Coleman vs. Silas Young

This is another to get a couple of talented ROH guys on the show as both guys don’t have any feuds going into the show. Coleman and Young should put on a solid match as it will likely be one of the openers to the show.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Michael Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis

This is one of the matches that should get some big reactions because of the fans love for Tanahashi and their hate for Bennett. I haven’t understood the hate for Bennett as I’m a fan of him but nevertheless this should be one of the
best matches of the night.

Kazuchika Okada vs. TBA

This match was supposed to put Okada against Cedric Alexander but Cedric was taken off due to the attack of the Decade after his match with Roderick Strong. Although I was looking forward to this match, I still expect this match be a good match since it involves Okada.

Kevin Steen vs Shinsuke Nakamura

This match should be a very hard hitting match as it involves Steen and “The King of Strong Style” Nakamura. I’m looking forward to this match as I’m a big fan of Steen and Nakamura was impressive last week.

ROH World TV Title Match: Jay Lethal (c) vs KUSHIDA

This match has really no build to it as Lethal has no contenders for the TV title as of now but I expect this to be one of the best matches on the show. I saw KUSHIDA for the first time last week and he really impressed me. I expect this to be a really good match as Lethal is one of the most consistent guys on the ROH roster.

IWGP Heavyweight Tag Title Match: Bullet Club (Doc Gallows and Machine Gun Karl Anderson) (c) vs. The Briscoes

The Briscoes have an opportunity to yet another tag team championship win to their résumé in this match. This match should be a good match and have some big reactions as the Briscoes are two of the most over guys in ROH.

ROH Tag Team Title Match: The Young Bucks (c) vs. reDRagon

I am really excited for this match as I’m expecting it to be the match of the night on this stacked card. The Young Bucks defend their ROH tag titles for the first time since they won them in March. For some more added interest, reDRagon will have UFC fighter “Filthy” Tom Lawlor in their corner.

IWGP Heavyweight Title Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Michael Elgin

Styles and Elgin have come to a stalemate as Elgin has one win over AJ and AJ has one win over Elgin. This is Styles’ first IWGP title defense since winning the title on May 3rd from Okada. This should be a really good match and should be different from the first two matches they’ve already had.

ROH World Title Match: Adam Cole (c) vs. Jushin Thunder Liger

One of the biggest matches on the show as Adam Cole defends his world title against the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger. This match is a huge way to cap off the show as Liger is respected and loved by fans all over the world and Cole has the opportunity to defend his title against Liger. I am expecting a really good match as the main event as I’m a big fan of both guys.

You can obviously see that I’m biased towards this show as I am a big ROH fan but make no mistake as this can possibly be one of the best wrestling shows of the year. Be sure to check the Indy Corner Podcast next week as I will be sending in an audio review of War of the Worlds.
