Ricochet Reigns Supreme

Added by Justin DiVirgilio

Dragon Gate, Dragon Gate USA, and PWG star Ricochet has had a pretty exciting year thus far as he accomplished many things. The things he accomplished are becoming the first foreigner to win the Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate title, winning the DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate title in April which ended Johnny Gargano’s over 2 year reign as champ. Now his biggest accomplishment to the point is winning New Japan’s Best of the Super Junior Tournament.

Ricochet’s victory happened on June 8th against one half of The Timesplitters, KUSHIDA. This was Ricochet’s second Super Juniors tourney and this huge victory came a little after a year when he debuted for NJPW. Ricochet is the first American to win since Eddie Guerrero did as Black Tiger II and the second straight foreigner to win the tourney as Prince Devitt won it last year.

The finals match between Ricochet and KUSHIDA was a very good match that mixed a lot of different styles. The match had some technical wrestling, high flying, and hard hitting moves in the match. This balance of styles is what made the match as good as it was in my opinion. Also this match was very equal as no man had the upper hand long and the outcome was unpredictable which contributed to how good the match was. In addition to how good the match was, the fans in attendance really appreciated the type of match that was going on and what the two men were wrestling for.

Ricochet accepted the Super Junior’s trophy and thanked the people for coming out. Ricochet was then confronted by current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight champion Kota Ibushi who Ricochet will face for his title on June 21st at the Dominion pay per view. The match is worth checking out as The Indy Corner Facebook page posted a link to it.

Ricochet has accomplished all that this year and it’s only June. I am excited to see if he wins the title on June 21st as he is one of my favorite wrestlers. All of these accomplishments are just making him more known across the world.
